Everyone knows about the Newport wedge, that surging mutant of a wave that rears its ugly yet strangely beautiful head. It’s a bodyboarders dream….

This photo sums up what wedge is all about

ELLIOT MORALES, ANOTHER GRAN CANARIAN CHARGER

How sick is this shot of Gran Canarian bodyboarder Elliot Moralles. The locals here charge in some of the heaviest surf going. Expect to see a lot more of these guys who come from what many pro riders are calling “a bodyboarding mecca”

These guys rip!

ANOTHER NOVEMBER DAY BODYBOARDING IN THE UK

It has been great November for surf in Cornwall, one of the best for years. If you know the right spots and had the time it has been possible to get some class, punchy waves and the weekdays have been pretty quiet too. Sadly i missed most of this due to being in Portugal and Morocco (warmer waves for me). There really is nothing like surfing at home with your buddies. As we head into December, lets hope we have a month like the last. The bouys are up and some secret spots should be showing their potential. Looking forward to capturing some of the highlights and seeing some of the other great shots from all the aspiring surf photogs.

While all the attention this week is on the world games in Gran Canaria, some high performance bodyboarding has been happening right on our doorsteps.

A couple shots from this morning….both landed

CALLUM MORSE – BODYBOARDER & PHOTOGRAPHER

It is amazing the amount of people who have got into a bit of surf photography over the past few years. Digital cameras have changed the photographic world, anyone can buy a camera, get out there and shoot 300 shots….

However, what really makes someones shots stand out from the rest? For me, it is the ability to see things from a diferent perspective, to see the soul within the frame. It is an artform and it takes skill to produce consistant shots that have feeling and capture the moment.

Callum Morse from Hayle, Cornwall is taking thing to another level and putting his personal safety on the line in the process. 19 year old Callum been producing some excelent shots of late, paddling out at some of the heavier spots that Cornwall has to offer to capture some of the UK’s best bodyboarders and some great bodyboarding action.

Callum graduated with a triple distinction in photography last year at Truro college, so you can see this guy has a bright future ahead of him. He currently uses a Cannon 40D with a range of different lenses and a SPL housing, perfect gear for getting out there amongst the punding surf.

We really like his work and we think you will too so check out his website and new daily surf report at the following….

BRITISH CHAMPION JACK JOHNS IN TRAINING

Earlier on today current British bodyboarding champion Jack Johns popped into the shop with good mates Dan Skajarowski, Alex Wake and Kir Roberts.

The lads were keen to get in the water and practice for the British Nationals tomorrow. Jack works away in London nowadays so like any land locked bodyboarder he was keen to get in what were basically shocking onshore conditions! The shop was quiet so I took the opportunity to take a few shots.

Looking forward to seeing these guys in action tomorrow at Porthtowan. Hopefully we will have a stack of shots from the event so watch this space.

THE TALENTED Mr JAGO

Every now and then a face from the past shows up and reminds you that there are some guys who are just “natural” in the water.

Adam Jago sadly doesn’t get the time in the water bodyboarding he used too. Family and work commitments keep him pretty darn busy nowadays, but when he gets a window, boom, Adam is on it. Many regard Adam Jago as one of the best bodyboarders ever to come from the UK and is totally respected within his peer group. He seems fearless and charges anything that comes his way.

We would love to see Adam on it more, the guys rips big time.

This shot: Adam readjusts his trim ready to back door this section. Yep, he made it.
Sorry for the grain in the shot, iso set too low for the light.

TIM BROWN LOVES BODYBOARDING…FACT!

Here at Bodyboard HQ we live and breathe bodyboarding, it is entrenched in nearly everyday of our lives and has been the same for many years.
When choosing riders to be on the team the first thing the was apparent was our riders commitment and passion for the sport. Tim Brown encompasses the true spirit of what drives us all to want to surf, he love it.

This photo shows how “in the moment” Tim is. Everything is in place, board, line, positioning and stacks of speed.

Over the past week of surf i have seen a lot of people forcing their riding, bouncing around all over the place in a seriously unfunctional manner. The key is to go with the flow and do it with style. Tim knows how fuctional it is to flow….

UNKNOWN BODYBOARDER.

Every now and then a face appears at your local beach who you don’t recognise. Often these bodyboarders are not the contest animals that grace our mags and laptop screens but core riders who just love to surf.

This guy was hitting it hard and riding what looked to be an old BZ Maligs board.

If you are this rider let yourself be known and i’ll send you the original.
