Well it’s been a tough day and an even tougher tour this year with very mixed conditions throughout this years contest schedule. Todays surf was hard work to say the least although everyone rose to the occasion. We were particularly impressed with both the under 14′s and the drop knee this year. Being a DKer myself, I know how hard it is to do anything out there when the surf is so blown out. Everyone did so well.

We were stoked to be the headline sponsor of the British Nationals this year and super keen to support it in 2012.

The BBHQ boys got some good results, even though half the team are away on surf trips. Eldred Hawke is pulling into some Guinness style kegs in Ireland. Danny Catten has done the Euro hop to Portugal and Tim Brown is getting some long rights and trying to stop his girlfiend trading her blond boyfriend for camels!

Congratulations to all who took part and especially our riders who did us proud here at Bodyboard HQ.

Steve Hall took the Under 18′s and has retained his status as British champ.
Alex Winkworth is now the British drop knee champion.

Alex was also ranked third overall in the British open mens tour.

Finally, massive congratulations to Portreath’s own, James Trevena who is now the British under 14s champion. We have been keeping a close eye on James get this summer, welcome to the team!!!!

We’ll be posting up a full list of the results as soon as we get them.

Thanks to all those who support Bodyboard HQ which in turn help us to support events like todays contest. Cheers

Well conditions could be better for the Bodyboard HQ British bodyboarding championships today here at Porthtowan. It’s windy out there folks but the competitors are taking it on with trojan spirit.

Portreaths own, James Trevena is through the first round of the under 14′s, Drop knee 1st rounds have just been in and we are now into the opening rounds of the mens open.

Not great conditions for photos either but i did manage to snag this shot of Bodyboard HQ’s team rider Alex Winkworth with a sick drop knee snap to reverse.

Hopefully i’ll snag a few more shots and load them up before the day is out.

The British Nationals, traditionally the culmination of the UK bodyboard contest calendar, are this year being sponsored by Bodyboard HQ, the UK’s longest running and biggest bodyboard shop, based in Portreath, Cornwall.

Owner of Bodyboard HQ Dave Heard said: “We’re proud to get behind what has become the most popular bodyboarding event in the UK, and we look to get in…volved in a lot more events in the future.”

The Nationals are provisionally scheduled for 8-9 October and will be the biggest event on the Auto-Sleepers British Bodyboard Club’s 5-event tour; potentially deciding the winner of the Tour’s Open, Drop Knee and Women’s sections.

With generous cash prizes across all 8 divisions, the weekend will be set to pull in competitors from the length and breadth of the British Isles.

Dave continued; “with the now established venue of Porthtowan being just around the corner from us in Portreath, it’s a great fit. We have always, and continue to, support local bodyboarders, top riders such as Eldred Hawke, Tim Brown, Alex Winkworth, Steven Hall and 5 X British champion Danny Catten. We are hoping that our team can make a big impact on the event once again”.

The Nationals will crown the bodyboarding champions in the age divisions (U14, U16, U18, Seniors and Masters) and the Tour the Champions in the Open, Drop Knee and Women’s sections.

Check in for the contest is at 8am saturday morning at the Blue bar, Porthtowan.
The final call for confirmation that the contest is on will be made on thursday the 6th of October, conditions permitting.
